Last week, Listening Post interviewed The Herbaliser’s Jake Wherry about his band’s latest electronic funk and soul effort Same as It Never Was. Some readers quickly took Wherry to task for admitting that he wouldn’t touch a PC on principle, sparking a musician’s version of ye olde Mac vs. PC conflict.

Today, Wherry chimed in on Listening Post to defend himself.

"Jeez," Wherry complained about the dust-up, "my point was that back in the early ’90s, I’d bought a machine (Mac Classic II) from a company that looked like it wouldn’t make it to the end of the year. So I did my bit to support the company."

Indeed, perspective is needed. Back when Wherry bought his ancient Mac, Apple was a far cry from where it is now, with a stock price cautiously approaching last year’s record of $200 a share. That’s pretty impressive, especially since we’re in the midst of a recession.

Microsoft, meanwhile, is somewhat floundering as computing moves away from a desktop-based environment to an internet-based one. Its stock price, currently wheezing at around $30 a share, is being battered back and forth as the PacNorth titan mulls a takeover of Yahoo.

In other words, times have changed. And Wherry could care less.

"If people wanna use PCs or Macs," he wrote on Listening Post today, "well, good luck to you. It doesn’t bother me. [I] thought the interview was about our record anyway!"
